Pumpkin crop looking its best in over 10 years, farmer says

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Aplin Farms is one of the few farms in the area that grows pumpkins within a 100-mile radius.

Pumpkins don’t like heat or wet weather, but they have done really well this season, mainly due to a drier weather pattern.

While the farm has been around for over 60 years, they have only been in the pumpkin-growing business for nearly 15 years, and John Aplin said this is one the best pumpkin crops he has seen in years.

“We grow about 25 varieties of pumpkins, anywhere from a pumpkin you know this big up to the biggest pumpkin,” Aplin said. “Our biggest pumpkins this year are some of the big white ones that weigh up to 75 pounds is the heaviest one we’ve found and weighed yet.”

Aplin Farms will start selling their different pumpkin varieties this coming Saturday through the first of November.
