ALEA releases information concerning officer shot in Ozark



(WDHN) — Ozark police officers responded to a call on the 100 blocks of Briar Hill Court Thursday night.

An officer saw a white male walking down the roadway holding a firearm, which prompted the officer to exit his vehicle. The man immediately began shooting the officer striking the officer and the vehicle multiple times.

The officer and other responding officers returned fire and the suspect was killed.

The officer was transported Thursday night to Southeast Health in Dothan where he remains in critical condition. Ozark Police Chief Marlos Walker requested the ALEA State Bureau of Investigation to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.

The names of the officer and suspect have not been confirmed yet. We are working to confirm.

All parties involved are working diligently on the investigation and there is no additional information at this time.
