DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan Police responded to the Dollar General on Montgomery Highway across from Piggly Wiggly at 8 a.m. Saturday.

On the scene, they found a man who had been shot right up the road on the 1000 block of North Bell St.

“The victim received a single gunshot wound to the chest,” Dothan Police Sergeant Ronald Hall said. “It did enter the chest and exited the back. It did not strike any vital organ.”

The victim is an unidentified 40-year-old man who arrived at the store prompting the clerk to immediately call the police.

The police still don’t know what lead to the man being shot.

“Due to his injury he was unable to give us a statement that day,” Hall said. “So, he will be followed up with, and the investigation is ongoing. Hopefully, we can develop a suspect or suspects in this case.”

This is the third shooting in Dothan over the past week.

The first shooting on Greentree Avenue left a woman injured, the second one on Williams Avenue resulted in one dead, and the latest shooting that took place on Saturday.

Police have been busy over the past few months, there have been multiple shootings in Dothan starting back in October.

“I know there’s been a lot, but I don’t have a number,” Hall said.
