GENEVA, Ala. (WDHN) — Pictures have surfaced showing Geneva’s downtown Johnson/Citizens Park defaced with paint and garbage.

In the photos, white paint can be seen splattered over the park’s table and chairs and the ground. Garbage and debris is stacked in the corner.

According to sources, the park was vandalized sometime Thursday night.

There has been controversy regarding whether the park should be locked overnight.

The park is owned by the Geneva Historical Society and is often leased out to individuals for events.

Sources have told WDHN the park will now be locked from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
