ELBA, Ala. (WDHN) — One person is dead following a housefire outside the city of Elba.
According to the Elba Fire Department, first responders rushed to a “fully involved residential structure fire” in the Shiloh community early Thursday morning around 1:30 a.m.
Once authorities arrived, they learned an individual was trapped inside the home. Firefighters entered the front of the house where they encountered heavy fire conditions and structural collapse. Fire suppression efforts were continued in that area while firefighters tried to reach the victim through the back bedrooms.
According to EFD, heavy smoke, high heat conditions, and a heavy fire load prevented first responders from entering the bedrooms.
After they were able to suppress the flames, firefighters were able to enter the home. There, they found the victim already deceased.
Currently, the fire is under investigation. The investigation is being handled by the Elba Police Department and the Alabama State Fire Marshall’s Office.
All further information will be released through these agencies.
