DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The trial date for a homeless man charged in the death of a 91-year old woman has been reset for October 19.
Joe Nathan Duncan is facing capital murder and robbery charges in the death of Mabel Fowler.
In March of 2018, Duncan was hired by Fowler to do yardwork for the elderly woman, and on the morning of March 17, she was killed at her home. Surveillance video from a nearby business showed Fowler going to her mailbox sometime that morning and Duncan showing up shortly afterward.
According to authorities, they believe the murder was intended to be a robbery or burglary.
During a previous interview with Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish, he told WDHN that Duncan had an extensive criminal background dating back to the 1970s.
