Investigators arrested and charged 46-year-old Taylor Pippen Barbaree, of N. Pontiac Street, with Theft by Deception 1st degree, and Forgery 3rd degree. It happened late on Wednesday
This stems from an investigation in which a false corporation was set up and an investor was inticed out of over $10,000. The money was then deposited into a personal account. The investigation is ongoing.
Bond has been set at $40,000. All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Barbaree was once the District 5 city commissioner. He resigned during his third term in office in late 2014.
Earlier that year, a restraining order was issued by his wife at the time after Dothan police were called to his home over a domestic issue.
Barbaree was also at the center of a Dothan Eagle report on the use of city credit cards. Barbaree confessed he received a cash advance on the card for a conference he never attended.
