DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Joseph Joyce, 32, of Dothan is behind bars after he failed to attempt to carjack two different vehicles from two different elderly people.

Dothan police responded to Eagle Road and the intersection of Draper and Allen.

“We responding to the area patrol locked the area down and began to searching for the suspects,” Lt. Pepper Mock said.

Both streets, just minutes away from Carver Magnet school and Jerry Lee Faine elementary. Both schools locked down.

“With the areas being closed to the schools, we notified the SRO’s. We had both schools in the neighborhood locked down because of the seriousness of the crime,” He said.

One resident told WDHN he has lived in his home for over 40 years and this was a very scary situation since the majority of the area is elderly.

“Everybody get along, been living here for 50 years, this is the first time this ever happened,” Darren Hart said.

Police searched the area and with the help of the community they were able to make an arrest.
