DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The fate of a Dothan man accused of killing a store clerk in 1982 may be determined within hours.

Nathaniel Dennis could be facing the death penalty if he is found guilty of the death of  Earnest Russell Douglas. Behind those doors, two families are one family seeking closure and justice, and the other freedom.

Nathaniel Dennis is currently serving a 634-year sentence in Virginia for attempted murder and robbery if he is found guilty of the 1981 murder cold case. He could be facing the death penalty.

“If he is not found guilty, he will go back to Virginia to finish his sentence there if he’s found guilty here then Alabama and Virginia will have to hash out who will get him,” Lt. Will Glover said.
