PRATTVILLE, Ala. (AP) — A motorcyclist is dead after crashing while attempting to flee from an officer, according to Autauga County Sheriff Joe Sedinger.

The Montgomery Advertiser reports that the fatal wreck happened Sunday night in Autauga County, north of Montgomery.

Sedinger said a deputy pulled over a motorcycle rider after someone called about a group of motorcyclists speeding on her road.

The sheriff said the rider was armed with a pistol and got back on the motorcycle and fled from the officer. The motorcycle then collided head-on with another vehicle, killing the rider.

Authorities haven’t released the rider’s name. State police are investigating.
