McRae Homes Community Center hosted a community job fair Wednesday afternoon.
Deandrea Peterson, the Resident Services Coordinator, says that March is their job preparedness and readiness month at the housing authority. Every year the center hosts a job fair with local employers such as Summerford, Southeast Health, Wayne Farms, and others.
Peterson believes the biggest obstacle for their residents is transportation, so they work to bring the jobs to the residents.
“Each year we reach out to the community and I mean they always overwhelm us with the support,“ Peterson said. “Commissioner Fleming, the valued support of him as a city commissioner he makes the phone call, he reaches out, so we put all those powers together, and we get what we have today.“
Peterson says next month they will be hosting a college readiness workshop which will take place April 30th.
