Man flees police; sets RV on fire

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A man is behind bars after barricading himself inside an RV and then setting the trailer on fire—all in an attempt to avoid being captured.

Around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon at A-Okay RV Park on Third Avenue, police attempted to serve two search warrants, but the situation quickly took a bizarre turn.

“The suspect barricaded himself inside the house,” said Lt. Lynn Watkins.

Police have identified the suspect as Jeffrey Wilson.

Once Wilson ran inside the RV, which belonged to one of his family members, he reportedly took matters into his own hands.

“While he was still inside the house a fire started,” Watkins said. “He was able to exit through a window and we took him into custody.”

According to reports, ammunition was inside the RV during the blaze and began firing from the trailer.

At the time of the incident police were serving two search warrants related to a set of burglary cases. One warrant was for Dothan police and one was for Geneva County police.

It is believed Wilson may be connected to a breaking and entering case that happened at a Geneva business Monday morning. However that is unconfirmed.

Firefighters were called to the scene to put out the blaze; an arson investigation is expected to be opened.
