Man charged in setting fire to famed building

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A homeless Houston County man has been charged with arson Friday evening.

Police arrested Richard Snodgrass, 28, for allegedly setting fire to the old Supreme Meadow Gold Ice Cream plant Thursday in Downtown Dothan.

The plant has been closed since the 1980s.

The Dothan Downtown Redevelopment Authority (DDRA) recently purchased the building in October for $55,000 with hopes of a downtown farmers market in the near future.

Snodgrass has been charged previously with arson in unrelated cases. He is booked in the Houston County Jail awaiting his first court appearance.

Local authorities are currently involved in the investigation. At this time, it is not known if additional arrests will be made.
