Local senior center hopes to keep senior citizens cool despite hot temperatures

NEWTON, Ala. (WDHN) — The ongoing heatwave can be quite dangerous to the very young and elderly.

In each instance, they’re more prone to experience hyperthermia. At the Newton Senior Center, the central AC system has been working overtime. The far majority of its clients have air conditioning in the home, but this facility provides a comfortable place to socialize without staying outdoors in hot temperatures.

“It is hurtful to children left in vehicles, but we watch out for each other and take care of each other,” Resident Carolyn Roberts said.

Medical personnel advises people to avoid outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:000 p.m.
