DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Its the peak of summer, so while experiencing the hot temperatures your air conditioner may be putting in a little overtime to keep you and your family cool.
“Summer months like it is now and outside today I think it was 98 degrees with a humidity of almost 90 percent. that certainly is a hot day and gonna make the units run more,” said Brad Kimbro, Chief Operating Officer of Wiregrass Electric.
With the air conditioner running consistently along with other contributing factors, you may be emptying your pocket on that monthly power bill.
Kimbro suggests a couple of ways to help save your pockets at least two to three percent of your bill.
“If you’re keeping your thermostat on 74 or 75 raise it to 75 or 76 if you can stand it we’re not saying you have to but that’s a way you can save money. Ceiling fans is another good way to keep things running in the home that circulation air a little bit especially if you’re keeping your thermostat a little higher..that ceiling fan can make a difference with that cool air you feel on your skin,” Kimbro said.
Adding to that, maintaining your ac unit and keeping your blinds and windows closed are more efforts to help you save money. For those who are customers of Wiregrass Electric, you have the ability to keep an eye on your usage.
“We’re here to help. There’s a lot of things on our website tools they can use to track their energy usage they can go and see what they used each day,” Kimbro added.
Kimbro says if you have any questions or concerns, you can contact the power company. They have a payment plan in place if needed.
