Woman finds abandoned kitten in box at Piggly Wiggly

GENEVA, Ala. (WDHN) — What was supposed to be a simple trip to the store turned out to be disturbing for one Wiregrass woman.

Sarah Millard rushed into the Piggly Wiggly in Geneva Tuesday to get a drink, but when she got back to her car, she heard something strange.

“I ran inside to grab a juice, and I was walking back to my car and heard meowing, and I looked in the car to see if someone left a cat, then listened to the hood because I thought it might have gotten stuck in there,” Millard wrote in a message to WDHN.

Eventually, she noticed a box near her car in a part of the parking lot with no cameras watching and found the kitten. The dark-haired kitten was left in 92-degree weather with no food or water.

Millard then brought the kitten into her car and went live on Facebook to tell her friends about what she found.

“To a little cat!” she said in tears. “I don’t know what to do. I’m going to try and give it some water, but I don’t want it to bite or scratch me or anything. … It’s so scared.”

She then urged people to not abandon animals.

“I wanted to go live to tell you guys to not ever do this to animals because that’s such a s—– thing to do to leave it in a box, helpless,” Millard said.

In her messages to WDHN, Millard explained that this is a common occurrence at that Piggly Wiggly.

Millard gave food to the kitten and took it away from the parking lot. The kitten is now safe and sound at the SOS Animal Shelter in Enterprise.
