DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Love is in the air and for one Dothan couple, it has been that way for over a decade.
Dothan residents Bobby and Patricia Sermon are high school sweethearts that have been married for 62 years!
“If you have the best, what can you look for,” Patricia said. “We just knew each other and the sparks started flying. I think God put us together. I think He does that.”
Soon after Bobby graduated, he joined the military. During that time, the couple became distant but remained friends.
“When she moved to college, the dorm had a pay phone,” Bobby told WDHN. “We’d take turns on Saturday night to talk to each other. To see who would have to pay for it. “
In addition to calling each other, Bobby and Patricia also wrote love letters throughout the week while they were apart.
According to Patricia, the couple missed each other so much they found ways to communicate as much as possible. It was that feeling that made them realize they were meant to be.
“When you’ve been married to someone for sixty-two years, you almost know what they’re thinking and saying,” Patricia said.
For anyone who is in a new relationship, marriage, or who just need some love advice, the Sermons offer this:
“It’s not all roses or peaches and cream but I’m telling you, as God at the set up of your family, I just think that’s one of the main answers.”
Bobby and Patricia plan on spending this Valentine’s Day doing their favorite thing: being together and enjoying year 63.
