COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a new scammer that is impersonating law enforcement.
Sheriff Dave Sutton said more than two dozen calls came in Tuesday about a person claiming to be an employee of the sheriff’s office. The scammer is telling people they missed a court date and need to pay money for it.
The amount ranges from $3000 to $5000. The number may appear to be from the CCSO, but this is a spoofed or copied number to make it look official.
The sheriff’s office does not call citizens to collect payment from them. It asks citizens to not share their personal information with the caller and just hang up.
