A Changing of Command at Fort Rucker. The Army Aviation Center of Excellence is now under the watchful eye of a new commander.
This afternoon Major General David J. Francis assumed command from Major General William K. Gayler.
“This is our sixth assignment at Fort Rucker between coming here for school and various assignments,” Major General David J. Francis said. “We feel like we’re coming home, and we feel very much a part of this community already and we’re excited to be back.”
Francis previously served in Washington D.C. and he hopes to bring some of his knowledge to Fort Rucker and continue the success they have had.
“There’s always different challenges that we face,” Francis said. “But, I will tell you the preparation and ground work laid by those two leaders, and particularly General Lundy, and General Gayler have set us on a path, it’s never easy but we are on a great path right now for the branch.”
While there’s always change in the army, Francis said he believes that they’re on a good path.
“The good news is that I have worked in the aviation in Enterprise and with General Lundy, with General Gayler,” Francis said. “So, we are very consistent in the strategy in the way forward for Army Aviation.”
Francis said he will be focusing on training, readiness, and modernization
