A church group from Faith Community Fellowship in Trussville returned home Tuesday afternoon after being trapped in Haiti over the weekend during violent protests. The students and chaperones on the trip were never in danger, but their flight was canceled Saturday due to the airport there being shutdown over the protest.
The group was greeted by church members and families as they pulled up to the church. Some students were emotional seeing their parents for the first time since Haiti.
People played ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ and waved flags to welcome them back. The group was on a mission trip in Haiti helping with a sports camp, and helping with newly built homes.
Will McBride is one of the students and says despite everything that happened, he would do it all again.
“I felt really at peace actually because I knew that God was in control and whatever happened was in his plan.” said McBride.
The group was in Haiti for 10 days.
