DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Three Wiregrass schools have been chosen among the top 50 schools recognized for academic achievement in Alabama.
Carver School of Mathematics Science and Technology, A.M. Windham Elementary School, and South Dale Middle School all made the cut, being recognized by the Alabama State Department of Education’s Legislative School Performance Recognition Program.
The program recognizes schools that have been ranked as part of the top 25 percent of schools within the state’s school grading system and accountability rules. The schools must also show progress by improving the school by at least one letter grade, as well as other criteria.
All public schools are eligible for the honor, which also includes financial awards dependent on the amount of money given to the legislative program. Superintendent Eric Mackey will then divide the funds to the schools on a competitive basis.
