State troopers recommend safety tips for drivers as holiday weekend approaches

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) —It’s Labor Day Weekend and as many are making plans Alabama state troopers want people to remember safety first.

Alabama State Trooper Kendra McKinney told us what precautions drivers should be taking.

“We want to be sure that the motorist are taking heed to our laws and driving safely, wear your seat belts pay attention to the road and just be safe,” McKinney said.

Mckinney says people tend to drive more under the influence or under controlled substances like drugs around this time.

“Drive sober get pulled over click it or ticket as we like to use it and just not only are you driving for yourself on the highways but you’re also driving for other motorists as well,” She said.

Mckinney suggests having a designated driver if you will be out drinking. This will keep you secure.

As you have some weekend fun, she wants people to still follow guidelines for COVID-19.

“With COVID just be sure to take the necessary safety precautions wear your masks, wash your hands, you know keep practicing social distancing,” said McKinney.

Mckinney says just be aware this weekend.
