Special election for Donalsonville mayoral position delayed due to pandemic

DONALSONVILLE, Ga. (WDHN) — The citizens of Donalsonville will have to wait a bit longer to choose their new mayor.

According to Probate Judge Michael Rogerson, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger postponed the special election from May 19, 2020 to June 9, 2020 due to concerns for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Early voting was to take place this Monday but did not due to the delay.

The special election was planned following former Mayor Dan Ponder’s resignation from the position. The two candidates running to take the mayoral seat are Ron Johnson and Mitzi Moye.
