BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WDHN) — Southeast Health is now offering a new Medicare Advantage plan in affiliation with VIVA Medicare, a division of Birmingham-based healthcare provider VIVA Health.
This comes as the Dec. 7 deadline for Medicare recipients to choose a health plan approaches.
The new 2020 plan, VIVA Medicare Me, offers “lower out-of-pocket costs and close coordination of members’ health care needs” for residents in Blount, Chilton, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, and Walker.
This plan, along with the other five advantage plans available to Medicare recipients in 2020, offers funds for benefits not covered by regular Medicare, such as dental, eyewear, over-the-counter medication, and memberships for fitness centers. Primary care visits are also covered with a $0 copay, and all the plans begin with $0 monthly premiums.
In addition to offering a new plan, VIVA Health will also open a customer service location on Southeast Health grounds to help give customers more information on what kind of coverage they can get.
Medicare Advantage plans differ from traditional Medicare in that they are offered by private companies with a Medicare contract and can include coverage for Medicare A (hospital care), B (medical insurance), and D (prescription coverage).
While traditional Medicare can be accepted by any medical facility that accepts Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans are limited to the specific network within that plan — which in VIVA Medicare Me‘s case primarily includes Southeast Health, its clinics, and physicians working with the Statera network.
