Slocomb Mayor Rob Hinson is asking citizens to take the initiative and participate in the 2020 census.
In a Facebook message Tuesday, Hinson said the census rate in Slocomb is at 55 percent, meaning that around 891 people have not taken the census yet.
As of now, $1.4 million in federal funding are not secure for the city.
This funding would help provide Medicare, Medicaid, transportation, and the city’s schools.
“Alabama right now, unfortunately, has the lowest census response of any state in our nation,” he said. “With that, we’re going to lose one or maybe even two congressional seats. Please be counted today. Our state, our nation, and our community deserve it.”
