The victim in the shooting in front of AMC 12 over the weekend has been identified as a 15-year-old.
Dothan police say an SUV drove through the parking around the theater before firing upon a group of minors.
“One of the bullets struck a 15 year old in the ankle,” a DPD release states. “The juvenile was treated and released. The Dothan Police Department takes this kind of act very seriously and will be releasing more information in the near future.”
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Dothan Police Department at 334-615-3000.
DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan Police conducted a detailed search of the area just in front of the AMC 12 movie theater Saturday just before midnight.
Police were looking for shell casings from a shooting just minutes earlier.
In what police referred to as a “drive-by”, at least four shots were fired from a vehicle toward the entrance to the city’s largest movie theater facility. One person was injured, but it is unclear if the person was actually shot during the crime. The person refused medical care from the 911 call and was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.
The timing of the shooting likely prevented this from being a much more dangerous situation as the crowd at the theater was small in numbers. Staggered release times for late showings kept exiting patrons at a minimum although the exact number of people in the area at the time of the shooting was unknown.
The theater sits at the northern end of one of the city’s most-popular shopping centers, The Dothan Pavilion. The retail center has anchor stores like Target, Lowe’s, Best Buy and a number of others and is heavily populated for many hours of the day.
It is unclear if Dothan Pavilion provides any form of security to patrons in the area aside of the services of Dothan Police.
DPD investigators were called to the scene, and an update is expected early in the week.
