Restaurant shows appreciation to Dothan police on Labor Day

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Labor Day is a day that most people have off from work.

However, there are a few who are still reporting for duty.

For first responders, the day is all about making sure everyone stays safe.

That’s why Olive Garden took the time to give back as all the restaurants are catering complimentary meals to a first responder organization in their community.

“We love to give back to the community,” Service Manager Barbie Turner said. “They give so selflessly each day of the year, and it’s just a small token of our appreciation. This is our fourth year at the police department. We did skip one and fed the fire department last year, but we’re back at the police department this year.”

The company as a whole has been demonstrating Italian generosity by providing a meal for first responders on Labor Day for 18 consecutive years as a “thank you” to those who serve.

“It just warms my heart so much, we’re just so grateful that they allow us to come and have this opportunity to give back,” Turner said. “We have a lot of fun with it. Our team has a lot of fun supporting this event. It’s just a great way to give back.”

On the receiving end, one Dothan officer said they appreciate what Olive Garden does for them.

“I mean, honestly, we don’t get enough thank you sometimes,” Officer Desiree Puertos said. “When the community wants to give thanks and give us food, we really appreciate it. On behalf of everyone at the department, we thank ya’ll.”

Turner said they are planning on doing this again next year.
