WESTVILLE, Fla. (WDHN) — A Westville man ended up behind bars after he allegedly choked a woman during a fight, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at a home on Hicks Road at around 7 p.m. Thursday after hearing of a domestic disturbance, encountering a reportedly aggressive 26-year-old man.

The man, David Hicks, was threatening and yelling at another person nearby. Deputies eventually got him under control and spoke with the victim about what happened.

“After Hicks was secured, the victim advised she had arrived home to find several items missing from her home and that she had walked to another home on the property where Hicks was located, at which time a physical altercation ensued,” a release from the sheriff’s office states.

The sheriff’s office said Hicks eventually choked the victim with one hand with a gun in his other hand.

The victim’s home showed signs of damage, with bullet holes in the walls and several objects being destroyed.

“Three firearms taken from the home were recovered, one of which was discovered lying in the field near the place Hicks had been standing when deputies arrived,” the release states.

Hicks was later booked in the Holmes County Jail on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic strangulation by battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, and resisting an officer without violence.
