Raccoon with signs of rabies found in Dothan park

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan Police Department is warning citizens to be careful around wild animals after finding a sick raccoon in Westgate park Friday morning.

The raccoon “appeared confused and disoriented, moved slowly, and had difficulty walking,” which the department said are signs of rabies.

A citizen told police about the animal, allowing them to isolate the possible hazard safely. The raccoon was turned over to Animal Control after a police officer collared it with some rope.
