DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Two Publix associates from two Dothan locations have tested positive for COVID-19, according to a company spokesperson.
Director of Communications Maria Brous said one associate worked at the Publix off of Highway 84 West and the other at the Publix at the Northside Mall, next to Home Depot.
As for the company’s locations at Cottonwood Corners, Enterprise, and Troy, no other cases have been confirmed so far.
“The testing and reporting of cases by health departments varies widely state-by-state,” Brous wrote in an email to WDHN. “As a result, we cannot fully and accurately report cases in real time, but we have been, and will continue to be, keenly focused on intensive, ongoing protective measures in all our stores.”
Since the pandemic began, the supermarket chain put several measures into place to protect both customers and employees from the virus. These include plexiglass shields at registers, customer service desks, and pharmacies; increased sanitation; one-way aisles and reminders to maintain social distancing; and marked lines to remind customers to remain six feet apart while at a register.
Publix has also taken measures to help employees deal with the virus by providing two weeks of paid leave for any employee who tests positive for COVID-19, notification and paid leave for employees who were exposed to COVID-19, and requiring face coverings for all associates.
Store hours were also adjusted to allow stores more time to disinfect and restock shelves.
