DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — As we continue to monitor our own health, you also need to keep an eye on your furry family members.
Kennel cough has now become a well-known virus among dogs inside boarding facilities and kennels.
It’s a respiratory virus that can spread not only in close quarters but also in neighborhoods.
While that sounds scary, there is a way to lessen the chance, or even prevent, your pet from getting it.
“We and most veterinarians, we require that they have a kennel cough vaccine up to date,” said Dr. Ben Garrett of the Dothan Animal Hospital. “It is preventable but we can still see it even though they’ve been vaccinated against it, they can still come down with it.”
In addition, Garret says the vaccine and boosters can lessen a case of kennel cough if your furry friends do contract it.
