Press Thornton Drive plaque unveiled at Dothan Country Club

Local News

Dothan, Ala. (WDHN)—For the first time in 64 years, Dr. Press Thornton will be “absent”. The 92-year-old “passed” earlier this year.

Following the luncheon, a special honor took place for the Thornton family.

An “unveiling ” occurred for Press Thornton Drive which leads into the country club.

For Evelyn Thornton, it’s a fitting honor to her “late” husband who helped created the
largest junior golf tournament in the world.

Incidentally, Press Thornton Drive is ceremonial. The official roadway’s name will remain Cherokee Drive,
so residents and businesses will “not” have to change their address.
