DOTHAN Ala. (WDHN) — Residents on Greenwood Drive are in shock over a recent shooting that left a man dead.

“We were sitting on the back porch yesterday, and we heard the 5 shots,” said Beverly Bonner, a friend of the victim.

“They determined that there was a male shot who appears to have succumbed to his injuries,” Major Will Benny said. “The investigators have started working the case.”

The victim was named Bernard Bryant, 25, of Dothan.

He was a resident of the area who was known by many, and some of the residents considered him as family.

“Then we heard the ambulance and sirens, we went, and we heard that it was him,” Beverly Bonner said. “I’m sorry, but he was like a son. He lived here with us; he was part of our family.”

Those who knew Bernard said he was a great guy and doesn’t deserve what happened.

Residents are confused over why someone would take his life and are in mourning over it.

“My heart goes out for his family; my heart goes out for his other brother,” his friend John Garner said. “I’ve just been, I’ve just been trying to hold it together here.”

The suspect of the case is described as a thin 5’9” male.

At the time of the shooting, he was wearing a yellowish jumpsuit and a Halloween mask.

The police are searching for the suspect.

“Whoever knows anything, please come forward and let us know,” Kathy Youngwood said. “I say stop fighting with guns.”
