OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — An Ozark man is facing murder and attempted murder charges after a road rage incident took a deadly turn, according to the Dale County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities learned of a road rage issue on Lakeview Road.

A release from the DCSO states two vehicles were going south when the suspect, Michael Smith of Ozark, forced the victim’s vehicle off the road. Her car flipped several times and ejected her from the inside.

She was pronounced dead on the scene. The DCSO is not releasing her name until her next of kin are notified.

Smith surrendered to investigators Friday morning and now faces charges for murder and attempted murder while awaiting his first appearance in court.

The investigation is ongoing, according to Bynum. However, the preliminary investigation leads the agency to believe the incident was domestic-related.
