NEWTON, Ala. (WDHN) — If it wasn’t for the 90-degree temperatures outside, one would have thought it was a yuletide shopping extravaganza.
In Dale County over the weekend, the Newton First Assembly of God Church held its first-ever “Christmas in July.” The event drew more than a thousand shoppers from across the Wiregrass looking for that one of a kind gift from more than 40 vendors.
The proceeds raised goes to the church’s women’s ministry.
“Well, we’ve been talking about it probably for about six months and working behind the scenes and talking to different vendors and different people like that, and really, we’ve have an overwhelming response,” Pastor Tommy Giddens said.
Church elders said “Christmas in July” was such a success that they expect it to become an annual fundraiser.
