New suspect confesses to 1990 murder of Ozark woman; charge against ex-husband dropped

Local News

OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — The Ozark Police Department announced Monday that it has arrested a new suspect in the 1990 murder of Tracy Harris.

Tracy was found dead on March 14, 1990, her body left naked from the waist up in the Choctawhatchee River near Woodham’s Bridge. An autopsy previously stated that Tracy drowned but had bruising on her neck that would match those caused by strangulation.

The murder was eventually deemed a cold case until 2016 when authorities arrested her ex-husband Carl Harris, Jr. for the crime.

Now the charge against him has been dropped, with a new suspect coming forward: Jeff Beasley.

Ozark police said a new witness from 30 years ago was found through a list of phone numbers. This witness provided information that led them to Beasley, who reportedly confessed to the crime after being taken into custody.
