WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WDHN) – The Washington County Sheriff is looking for a man they believe stole donations meant for a critically ill infant.
According to a release from the sheriff’s office, the man seen in the surveillance photos above stole a bucket of cash donations from the River Stop Gas station on U.S. 90 in Caryville Wednesday morning.
Workers at the store explained to a deputy on the scene that the donations were meant for a local family whose baby is suffering from serious medical conditions.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall black man. The footage showed him “walk by the checkout counter and swipe the container before exiting the store.”
He then headed east on U.S. 90 in a white Sedan with Florida plates.
“Violating a person’s sense of security by taking something that belongs to them is difficult enough to deal with,” Sheriff Kevin Crews said. “This situation goes even further than that. It deeply saddens me that this man has taken what people, out of the goodness of their hearts, have donated to this family. This money was intended to help a family care for their seven-month-old child, who is facing serious medical conditions. There is simply no excuse for his behavior.”
Crews is asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect. Anyone with information on who this man is can call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 850-638-611.
