DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Police are on the lookout for a man who reportedly robbed the Shell Station on the 3200 block of Montgomery Highway.
Around 2:20 a.m. Monday, a man entered the store and demanded money from the station’s cash register while “gesturing that he had a weapon.”
“The clerk is unsure if he had a weapon or not,” Dothan Police Lt. Lynn Watkins said. “He was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash, and several packs of Newport cigarettes.”
The suspect then fled on foot toward the rear of the business.
Officers later arrived and spoke to the employee on staff, who described the suspect as a black male dressed in “a black and grey hooded sweatshirt and black and white pants.” As shown in the photos taken from surveillance cameras, the hoodie bears a symbol on the front resembling the Autobots insignia from the Transformers franchise.
For many gas stations, such as this one, robberies tend to happen either late at night or early in the morning, and Watkins said that’s because there are fewer people out and about that could see what happens during those times.
“There’s less chance of someone being in the store that might be able to help identify them,” Watkins said. “It makes it an easier target.”
The clerk gave officers a description of the man and was not injured during the robbery.
