DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Dothan Police Department arrested a suspect in a near-fatal shooting Monday evening.
Just after 5 p.m., officers were sent to the 600 block of East Newton Street on a shooting call. A man was found shot multiple times, and Dothan Fire Medics were able to treat him before he was taken to a local hospital for life-threatening wounds.
“Investigators from Dothan Police Criminal Investigations Division began their investigation by interviewing neighbors and relatives of the victim,” a DPD release states. “A general description of the suspect, according to witnesses, was a black male wearing camouflage shorts and black shirt last (seen) walking towards Range Street.”
Officers later got a tip about the suspect being at a public housing location. Investigators, patrol officers, and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Service arrested suspect Alfonza Walker, 32, of Dothan.
While searching the apartment they found him in, officers found a stolen gun, which is believed to be the weapon used in the attack.
Police have not yet found what would have motivated Walker to attack the victim.
Walker now faces charges for attempted murder, receiving stolen property second-degree, and a prior vehicle break-in. He is being held without bond.
