GENEVA COUNTY — The Malvern Volunteer Fire Department held a boot drive Saturday morning. Firefighters were split up into groups all over the small town of Malvern — placed at the Dollar General, along Geneva County Road 49 and Johnston Meats.
The boot drive is not annually for the fire department but this year the goal is to raise money for new equipment such as gear and help match the grant for a new cascade system.
Chief Anthony Johnston says he’s thankful to the community for being so generous.
“It means a lot to us and it really shows how much they support us. Because I mean some of em, that gentleman right there just came and made a generous donation and it doesn’t even look like he’s going into the store to buy anything. That means a lot right there that he came over here just to show his support. Them showing their support lets the guys know that people do care about them and its not just guys running up and down the road on a fire truck with sirens,” Chief Johnston said.
The fire department raised a little over 300 dollars the first 30 minutes into the boot drive. The fire department is planning to be in their locations until lunchtime.
