Inmate on the loose after escaping Geneva County Jail

Local News

GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force is assisting the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office in tracking down an escaped prisoner.

Sheriff Tony Helms said Antonio Carter and his cellmate walked from their cell after a correctional officer forgot to lock the door on May 4. One inmate was captured shortly after the incident, but Carter remains on the loose.

Last March, he escaped while working in the jail as a cook but was captured a short time later.

If you see or know of Carter’s whereabouts, contact the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office at  334-684-5660 or your nearest law enforcement agency.
