‘I’m not stepping down,’ says Dr. Edwards

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan City Schools Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Edwards addressed progress and rumors about DCS at the Wiregrass Economic Forum Thursday.

One piece of online gossip was about Edwards resigning from her position by the end of the year.

“Oh my goodness, those are rumors,” she said. “I’m not stepping down.”

According to Edwards, Dothan High School and Dothan Preparatory are doing well. Compared to the discipline from the four middle schools last year, the discipline at Dothan Prep has improved a lot.

Edwards is proud of the progress the schools have made since the start of the year.

“This is the act year,” Edwards said. “I say that because we’re looking at accountability. We’re looking at attendance. We’re looking at academics. We need to do a lot better at doing our customer service but also our consistency.”
