DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Houston County teachers can expect to see a pay raise sooner than expected.
For central office employees and administrators, the raise will start in July and everyone will receive a raise in August. Along with with the raise, the starting salary for a Houston County teacher has been raised to over $40,000.
School Superintendent David Sewell hopes this will bring more teachers to Houston County.
“I’m hoping it will help us extract more teachers and newer teachers because the surrounding states especially Georgia they have a much higher pay scale,” Sewell said.
The district will have to pay $320,000 to give teachers this pay raise.
