Houston County Sheriff’s office gets radio upgrades

Local News

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is finally getting radios to connect emergency services throughout the county.

The Houston County Commission approved the bid for the department to move forward with its plans.

Sheriff’s deputies will be able to communicate with not only each other but also other emergency services in Houston and surrounding counties.

“So our system will give us more freedom to communicate with outside agencies around us that we work with on a regular basis,” Major Bill Rafferty said. “We’ll still be able to communicate directly with Dothan because we do have that radio system in our vehicles.”

The sheriff’s office hoped to be done within the next six to nine months.
