Houston County disaster volunteers seek help from churches

Local News

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Houston County Voluntary Organization Active in Disaster is looking for help.

According to its members, the organizations need Wiregrass churches to offer space and help if a natural disaster strikes.

Since we have moved into hurricane season, VOAD needs more large buildings to be able to house people while maintaining COVID-19 guidelines.

VOAD Chair Gary Griffin explained why they need more room.

“Before COVID, you could have a 100 people in a sanctuary, but now with COVID and social distancing, you may get 20 people so we need more facilities to open and more churches and with that, we need more volunteers,” Griffin said. “So those churches that are interested in partnering with VOAD, we need to make sure those churches have the volunteers to help us as well.”

If you would like to help, email Griffin at gary@hcvoad.org.
