Houston County Commission adopts program to honor retirees

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Houston County commissioners approved a request to adopt an employee retirement incentive program at Tuesday’s county commission meeting.

While this may sound like a program to encourage employees to retire, commission Chairman Mark Culver said that’s not what it is.

There’s a recent law that was adopted several years ago, and it’s a policy that allows them to have a reception to honor someone was has recently retired.

“The new law requires us to have a policy in order to do that,” Culver said. “What this is doing is just putting that policy on the books, so that we can recognize employees when they retire.”

The most recent employee to retire from the county was Chief Administrative Officer Bill Dempsey.
