Henry County Commission works on traffic issues caused by new timber plant

ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WDHN) — The Henry County Commission will discuss a request for permission to execute an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for a turn lane for Abbeville Fiber at next Tuesday’s meeting.

The lane will be used as an entryway for 80 to 100 log trucks to get into the new Abbeville Fiber Plant once construction is complete. After the plant is open, it will provide around 105 jobs to residents.

According to Henry County Probate Judge David Money, it will be designed so they come off of Highway 431. This way, they won’t line up and block traffic.

“They’re just days away, maybe a week or two from receiving log trucks out there, and so we have asked for assistance from ALDOT and was granted that two or three months ago, several months ago, but there’s a lot of paperwork involved when you deal with ALDOT,” Money said.

Money said they found out last week that it’s been slowed down on the state’s side, and in three to four weeks, they’ll get the final paperwork and get it done.
