Headland gymnasium making progress

HEADLAND, Ala. (WDHN) — The new Headland High School gym being built is making progress, but this isn’t your average gymnasium.

The Steve Williams Arena is going to be more like a movie theater, a place where people can sit down, eat, and be entertained.

It will also be accessible.

“We were wanting to kind of bring a new experience,” principal architect Clayton Wilks said. “An updated refreshed experience for Headland who’s been using a gym that was built, must have been back in the 1950s, and is a bit undersized for them right now, and they really want an updated basketball gym space so we feel like we’ve given them that.”

Wilks says the contractor has been working hard and the gym is scheduled to be done by early November.
