ABBEVILLE, Ala. (WDHN) — The grand opening for the state of -the art- Abbeville fiber sawmill.
It is the largest economic development project in the county’s history. The Abbeville Sawmill received its first load logs on July 8. The project represents the largest economic development project in the county’s history.
The Abbeville sawmill will provide more than 115 jobs for local residents.
“You talking about somebody that was happy, I couldn’t believe it. I had to check the message again to make sure it that they were for real and not playing it was great,” Annie Williams said.
The building opened for business in 1952 with 19 workers and today hundreds of applicants submitted their application to work at Abbeville Fiber. During the grand open ceremony, a name change happened.
“According to jimmy Rane it’s going to be called Lancaster Mill I wasn’t expecting that but it was an hour,” Michael Lancaster General Manager.
