DECATUR, Ala. (WIAT) — Governor Kay Ivey announced on Friday that GE Appliances will expand its manufacturing facility, creating 255 full-time jobs.
The $115 million investment will help increase production to meet an increasing demand for freezer refrigerators.
“The expansion being announced today by GE Appliances reflects the company’s deep commitment to its employees at the Decatur facility and to the state,” Governor Ivey said in a press release issued by her office. “We’re proud that this great company calls Alabama home, and we look forward to supporting the continued growth of a manufacturing location that has a substantial economic impact on the area.”
Approximately 40,000 square feet will be added to the existing plant along with cutting-edge manufacturing equipment. According to the release, GE Appliance’s plan is to transition to a fully interconnected digital factory.
